1 minute, 11 seconds and 1 frame video documentation of Paolo Buggiani FIRE PERFORMANCE in Cartagena, Colombia, Avenida El Lago, January 2010.
The video, shot in mini DV and edited in Final Cut Pro with the use of masking effects, is Cinzia Sarto interpretation of this event.
In this performance, “street artist” Paolo Buggiani continues his long-life research on “the intuition of time”. Working with the accelerated fading of luminance at twilight he carries a fire pendulum into street life, underlining relationship between movement and measured time.
In the editing, a rhythmic change occurs from the initial swing of the fire pendulum, marking a flow of two seconds, to a slowing down of that time interval, where that murmur becomes a subjective time of human breathing. The turning point is the attempt to exit global isochronous time with the throw of the pendulum. For a moment, the thrust of fires seems to have retraced the sun’s path.
What remains of that desire is a caged clock on a winged bicycle, orbiting the timekeeper.
